This portfolio documents an exploration into histories from 'the other side and below’, analyzing how women film-makers utilize the film’s materiality as a tool for political and social resistance, weaponising the chemical and temporal properties of film.
By investigating the histories of the Women Film-makers of the LFMC and visiting the LUX moving image archive this project explores how women’s materialist, avant-garde filmmaking challenges dominant modes of cultural production, while confronting the internal omissions of race and intersectionality within radical artistic spaces.
Through the gathering of visual case studies, critical annotations, and deep engagement with my own personal matrilineal archive, this space serves as an active journal of a research journey exploring film preserved and reactivated as an alchemical counter-history against corporate erasure.
